Michael Weier departs Hume City FC

After multiple stints with Hume City across a seven-year period, Michael Weier has officially departed the club upon the expiration of his current contract.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been a major figure at the club over the years, having made more than 100 appearances across all competitions and being part of the historic Dockerty Cup-winning squad.

Weier first joined the club from Brisbane Strikers as a 19-year-old ahead of the 2017 season where he spent the next five years making the majority of his appearances as the first-choice goalkeeper.

During the COVID-19 interrupted 2020 season, Weier was loaned out to Capalaba FC back in his home state to keep him active before his hard work and perseverance paid off and he was offered a contract with A-League club, Newcastle Jets.

The move to Newcastle concluded his first stint with the club and Weier went on to play multiple matches for the New South Wales-based club over three seasons.

Following his departure at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season, Weier made a return to Hume City FC during the mid-year transfer window where he remained until the conclusion of this season.

Generally considered a popular figure within the playing group, Hume City Coach Nick Hegarty wished Weier all the best.

“Michael has been a great servant of this club and has had a major impact during his time here,” Hegarty said.

“He was part of the club during what is arguably its best-ever period and was highly deserving of every appearance he made both at NPL Victoria and A-League level.

“He is also a great clubman and his joyful presence around the club will be missed.

“On behalf of Hume City FC, I wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
