Hume City FC secures hard-fought draw against powerhouse South Melbourne

A Lloyd Isgrove stunner has seen Hume City FC take a grinding 1-all draw against powerhouse NPL club South Melbourne tonight.
Recent history had not been in favour of Hume, suffering four-consecutive 1-nil defeats to South Melbourne, but Friday night’s tight affair ensured the history did not repeat.
Held at Nasiol Stadium in Broadmeadows, it was a tantalising match that could have swung either way, with plenty of feeling between the squads.
The first goal fell the way of former Hume City player turned South Melbourne midfielder Andy Brennan. In the 22nd minute, Brennan punched the ball into the net after some clumsy Hume City play near their own goal box.
Hume City would have to wait until the second half to claw its way back into the match, and the goal was a peach.
Some smart work down the left hand side from Hume’s own half landed at the feet of Welshman Isgrove who took just two touches before launching the ball into the top right corner of the goal. The 62nd minute goal was a finish for the ages and the perfect way to get back into the match.
Both teams had some great chances in the final 30 minutes of the match, but neither could break the deadlock, ensuring just the one competition point each.
The draw sees Hume City FC sit sixth on the ladder after seven games completed.
The next game of Hume City FC’s will be held at Avenger Park in Parkville where the squad will take on league leaders Avondale FC.
