Hume City FC Holds Off Late Victory Push to Secure Third Straight League Win

Hume City FC has continued its strong run of form, with a 3–2 win over Melbourne Victory Reserves at The Home of the Matildas, solidifying a top-six place at the end of Matchday 12.
With goals from Harry Ascroft, Mehmet Uysal and Josh Okane, Hume City weathered a late charge from the home side in the final stages of the match to secure its third consecutive win in the Victorian Premier League and fifth victory across all competitions.
Unfortunately for Hume, it was Victory who got off to the better start, opening the scoring in the seventh minute following a dominant early spell. Their pressure was eventually rewarded when an unmarked Jing Reec connected with a cross to power the ball home.
It didn’t take long for Hume City to respond, with Harry Ascroft heading in a perfectly placed corner from Erdeniz Yildiz to equalise with an all-important goal.
Once back on level terms, Hume City took control of the game. Lloyd Isgrove led an onslaught of attacking play, with the Englishman, captain Josh Bingham, and Birkan Kirdar all coming close to finding the net.
While a Hume goal looked inevitable, a sharp break from Victory saw them surge forward, and Jesse Howey won a penalty after being brought down by Aisen Ishak. Fortunately for the visitors, Reec stepped up and sent his shot wide, leaving the scores locked at 1–1.
Just over 10 minutes later, it was Hume City who struck next. A smart piece of team play began with Godfrey Debele’s ball down the line to Mark Ochieng, whose scintillating cross found Bingham. The captain flicked it into the path of Uysal, who finished superbly to put Hume ahead.
Despite a few late changes before the break, Hume went into half-time with a 2–1 lead — and it didn’t take long to extend that buffer. Just five minutes into the second half, Josh Okane made it 3–1 with a thunderous strike from inside the box.
The goal came from a brilliant build-up, as Uysal drove towards the edge of the area and fired a low shot that struck the post. Isgrove was quickest to the rebound and cut the ball back from the byline to Okane, who made no mistake.
Hume dominated for the next 20 minutes in search of a fourth, but Victory found a way back into the contest. Luca Kolic scored a crucial goal for the home side after Okane lost possession in midfield, and Victory capitalised to reduce the margin to one.
The final 20 minutes descended into a chaotic, high-stakes battle. As tensions rose, both sides pushed hard for the next goal. Okane, Michael Domfeh, and Obi Eze all had golden chances to seal it, but none could convert.
Fortunately for Hume, the team held firm to secure a hard-fought 3–2 win and keep its winning streak alive in the league ahead of a crucial clash with St Albans Saints on Saturday 10 May at 7:00pm AEST.
