Hume City FC closes season in style with 4-0 win at St Albans

Hume City FC signed off its NPL campaign in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 4-0 victory over St Albans Saints at Churchill Reserve.

In front of the home crowd, St Albans looked the more likely side to score in the opening half-hour, creating pressure and carving out several half chances. But Hume’s defence stood firm, weathering the storm and biding their time.

The breakthrough came just before the interval when a well-delivered Hume corner forced a St Albans defender into turning the ball into his own net. That slice of fortune handed Hume a 1-0 lead at half time.

The visitors grew in confidence after the restart and took control of the match. In the 76th minute, Robert Harker doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, dispatching his effort with composure.

As the hosts began to tire, Hume struck twice more through Oliver Kelaart, who capped off the season in style. His first came in the 88th minute, followed by a stoppage-time free kick strike from just outside the box to round out a dominant 4-0 performance.

The result brings down the curtain on Hume City’s 2025 season, their league campaign now complete following elimination from national knockout competitions.

It was a season of mixed fortunes for Hume, with flashes of promise and moments where a top-four finish seemed within reach. Ultimately, inconsistency told, and the side finished sixth on the ladder – a solid foundation to build on heading into next year.
