Hume City FC has kept its great run of form alive with a 3-2 victory over Green Gully SC at NASIOL Stadium this evening.
Having come into the game in a rich run of form, the game was an entertaining affair in front of a strong home crowd, with the win cementing a place in the top six in the tight NPL league ladder.
The men in red were the first to trouble the scorekeepers, taking advantage of their possession and pressure to bag the first goal.
A corner landed at the head of the captain … Ascroft who made no mistake during the 17th minute.
Green Gully, though, proved they were not going to roll over, wasting little time to get themselves on the board to level the score.
The next 20 minutes were filled with plenty of chances for both teams in what turned out to be an evenly contested and tight contest.
Just five minutes from the end of the first half, Hume City retook the lead, thanks to a craft finish from Englishman Rob Harker.
The second half started with an early goal for Green Gully, but the setback did not deter Hume. Harker again was put into space near the goal, and he took just one touch and a strong right boot to score what would be the final goal of the match at the 56 minute mark.
Despite numerous chances for both teams in the closing stages, the win marked an important win ahead of Hume City’s big clash against Dandenong City FC next week.
