Dockerty Cup run comes to an end after disappointing loss to Nunawading
Hume City FC has been knocked out of the Dockerty Cup after a frustrating 4-0 loss to VPL2 side Nunawading FC on Tuesday evening.

Coming off the back of a memorable 3-0 league win on Friday night against Dandenong City, a night of misses and misfortune left a depleted Hume City with no answer for the inspired home side.

Hume City got off to a strong start to the game but couldn’t break through, with Erdeniz Yildiz coming extremely close to giving Hume City the lead.

Unfortunately, it was Nunawading who broke the deadlock first with a well-worked counter-attack carving the defence open that ended with Carlos Abboud threading the ball past Damon Camilleri.

While Hume looked to have potentially settled in the hunt for an equaliser, it was Nunawading who doubled their advantage just eight minutes later as Stuart Edgard climbed high over the Hume City defence to power home a header.

Going into the break 2-0 down, Hume City came out firing and dominated the game in search of their first goal of the game, as Mehmet Uysal, Obi Eze and Michael Domfeh all had decent chances – none of which were on target.

Just like the first half, though, it was Nunawading who would find the back of the net against the run of play as Edgard got on the end of another counter-attack with less than a quarter to play to score his second of the night.

Just three minutes later, Christian Cavallo put the game beyond doubt as an impressive strike curled past Camilleri.

Hume City now turns its attention to a big league fixture against Altona Magic on Saturday at 3:15pm.
