Hume City FC can confirm Head Coach Nick Hegarty will depart the club after accepting the role of B Team Head Coach at A League side Brisbane Roar.

Hegarty will remain with the club for the remainder of September before making the move to Queensland and beginning duties with the Roar at the start of October.

The move follows Hegarty’s record-breaking season with Hume City FC, steering the club to its highest ever finishing position of second place in the National Premier League Victoria season and a first ever home semi-final.

While the team ultimately fell short of reaching the grand final, 2026 proved a resounding success under Hegarty’s stewardship as the team recorded 15 wins and four draws during the 26-game season.

A long-time stalwart of Hume City, Hegarty first joined the club in 2012 as a player and enjoyed six seasons for the team, where he won the prestigious Football Federation Victoria Gold Medal on two occasions, held the role of club captain and became one of the club’s all-time highest goalscorers.

He then began his first stint as coach in 2017 and helped the club to its first major piece of silverware in 2019, while also being named Coach of the Year that same year.

Hegarty resigned from his first stint in charge in 2022 to return to the United Kingdom before coming back to the club midway through the 2025 season where he has remained since.

Hume City FC President Ersan Gulum thanked Hegarty for all his efforts.

“We are extremely happy for him and his family that he has been able to receive this opportunity to ply his trade at an A League club – something I truly believe he will blossom in from the moment he begins.

“When he came back for his second stint, it was always a conversation that we hoped to give him a pathway to showcase himself and take the step up into a more professional environment like the A-League.

“Nick has always been a highly talented manager and a great servant of this club, so we are proud of everything he has achieved during his time, and are thrilled to know his second run with the club helped secure this move to a successful club like Brisbane.
