Hume City FC signs experienced Central Defender Aaron Calver

Hume City FC continues to bolster its roster ahead of the 2026 NPL Victoria season by signing experienced defender Aaron Calver.

Calver arrives at Hume City FC with an extensive resume from within the A-League having made 50 appearances at Sydney FC between 2012 and 2019 after making his debut at the age of 16.

Moving on from Sydney FC to Western United in 2019, Calver added a further 34 games including a premiership in his year before moving to Perth Glory in 2021 for 10 appearances.

Since 2022, Calver has played in Korea for K League 2 team Gwangju FC where he made 45 appearances. Switching to Daejeon Hana Citizen in 2024 in K League 1 and finishing earlier this year at Seoul E-Land, Calver will add great knowledge to the Hume City FC roster.

“After speaking with Ersan (Hume City FC President Ersan Gülüm) and Hegs (Hume City FC Head Coach Nick Hegarty), signing at Hume City FC was the best choice for me,” said Calver.

“I also know some of the boys at Hume City FC and I believe it will be a good fit.

“I want to play every game and I want Hume City FC to be at the top of the table at the end of the year where it belongs. It’s a big club in Melbourne and I hope to help as much as I can to win the team silverware at the end of the season.”

Hume City FC Head Coach Nick Hegarty has lauded the signing of a player the calibre of Calver.

“Being able to bring in a player of Aaron’s quality is a huge statement,” said Hegarty.

“Like with any deal like this things have to fall into place and we are pleased to have him with us.

“Although he has come to us without much football in the last few weeks, he is in fantastic condition and will be up to full speed very quickly.

“His Quality and experience will be invaluable during the season. He is a really solid human which is crucial coming into a dressing room late on in pre-season. The younger lads in the group have a top professional to work with and learn off throughout the year, and we have an exceptional footballer to strengthen our squad.

“It’s a win, win.”

Hume City FC will begin its 2026 NPL Victoria season at Nasiol Stadium against the Altona Magic on Friday, 13 February.
