Goalkeeper Damon Camilleri has re-signed with Hume City with the young gun set to stay in Broadmeadows for the 2026 season.
Having made his National Premier League debut during the back half of the 2025 season under current coach Nick Hegarty, Camilleri has shown plenty of promise in the early phase of his career.
Camilleri spent his early junior career at a number of clubs, including Avondale FC, before transferring to Hume City where he progressed through the ranks and eventually made it through to the U23s, where he had a highly impressive season last year.
His good form earned him a call up to the senior squad for the 2025 season where he serves as a backup goalkeeper to Michael Weier.
Camilleri then made his official seniors debut midway through the season in July during a 1-1 draw with Dandenong Thunder SC, contesting four consecutive games against Green Gully, Dandenong City and Altona Magic – his game against City seeing him make his maiden senior clean sheet.
While he spent the following four games back as a reserve, Camilleri returned to the starting line-up towards the end of the season where he played three of the final four games, making a number of big saves throughout that period.
“Very happy to re-sign with the club off the back of what was a really good season, so I am happy to be coming back and hopefully I can have another strong run in 2026,” Camilleri said.
“It was cool to get my debut out of the way in 2025 and I had a good experience doing so – especially since I have been playing here in my youth.
“I am hoping that I can improve even further next year and potentially build on my senior experience, so I can’t wait to get started again.”
Senior Coach Nick Hegarty was looking forward to working with Camilleri for the 2026 season.
“Damon has already demonstrated lots of good attributes and is keen to keep improving. As a graduate of Hume City’s Senior Development Phase, we are more than thrilled to be able to have him continue with us,” Hegarty explained.
“We look forward to seeing him continue his development at the club under the wing of Chris Oldfield, who I am sure will teach him plenty as Damon looks to grow as a player.”
