Hume City FC is delighted to confirm the signing of New Zealand defender Taylor Schrijvers on a multiple year deal.
The highly regarded 28-year-old arrives in Broadmeadows with extensive experience at the top level in New Zealand, as well as strong performances across the National Premier Leagues Victoria.
Throughout his career, Schrijvers has been a standout figure at the clubs he has played, earning MVP honours, league titles and appearances in major international competitions.
Beginning his journey in Wellington, Schrijvers represented Capital Premier side Lower Hutt City AFC before progressing through the youth ranks of Team Wellington in the New Zealand Football Championship.
After a season the youth squad, he stepped into the senior setup in 2016, establishing himself over the following three years. The defender went on to enjoy multiple stints with both Team Wellington and top-flight rivals Miramar Rangers, building a reputation as one of the league’s premier defenders.
Across seven seasons in the New Zealand Football Championship – later rebranded as the NZ National League – Schrijvers collected numerous accolades, including scoring in Team Wellington’s maiden Oceania Football Confederation Champions League title win in 2018 and earning selection in the NZ National League Team of the Year in 2021.
Following the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, he made the move across the Tasman, joining Melbourne Knights before switching to Green Gully at the start of 2023. Schrijvers now takes the next step in his career with Hume City FC.
“I’m really excited to get started at Hume City FC. It’s a big club and I’m really happy to be here,” Schrijvers said.
“There were a few reasons behind the decision, but ultimately I just want to get back out there. Hume has consistently been a top-six side, and I want to be part of a team pushing for finals football and competing for silverware.
“I believe this club is capable of winning a trophy, and I hope I can play a part in helping us get there. I’m just keen to get started – that first game is always a bit of a test, but it’s what we all look forward to.”
Hume City FC Senior Coach Nick Hegarty welcomed Schrijvers’ arrival and was keen to work with him.
“We are extremely excited to have a player of Taylor’s calibre join the club.” Hegarty said.
“He brings a winning mentality and valuable experience and Taylor will undoubtedly strengthen our defensive unit. Like a few of the men joining our squad he has something to prove, something to fight for. This makes him a formidable opponent and a huge asset for us Hume City”
“There will be challenging moments throughout the season, and having someone with Taylor’s experience will be vital in helping us navigate those situations.”
Hume City FC looks forward to seeing Taylor Schrijvers don the red and white in the 2025 NPL Victoria season.
