Hume City FC is pleased to announce the signing of another young talent with John Paikopoulos joining the club for the 2026 season.

Arriving in Broadmeadows from Melbourne Victory’s youth system, Paikopoulos has enjoyed a promising rise through the ranks at one of the country’s most respected sides.

A strong and composed defender, Paikopoulos progressed through the Melbourne Victory Academy before earning regular selection across their U21 and U23 sides. His consistency at youth level saw him become a reliable presence at the back.

This year saw Paikopoulos make his debut in the National Premier League – Victoria, where he enjoyed a number of solid performances, including against Hume City in the back half of the season – eventually making a switch to the club in the off-season.

“Signing with Hume City FC is a big deal for me as I am coming to an established and developed club,” Paikopoulos said.

“Nick Hegarty and all the boys here are very determined to win and play well together, so I’m looking forward to it.

“I feel like just the players at the club uphold themselves quite nicely – when playing against them, I could see the way they fought for each other, which is something I’m pretty big on too.

“I feel like supporting all the boys and lifting each other throughout the games and training will ultimately make us a strong team.

“I hope to develop as a player and as a person, while also getting the most out of training and contributing to the games as much as possible.

“All in all, I am looking forward to meeting all the boys and getting into training, pre-season and starting the season off very strong.”

Hume City FC head coach Nick Hegarty expressed his delight at securing another rising talent ahead of the new season.

“John is a highly promising young defender with a strong foundation that has enjoyed positive development in an excellent environment during his youth,” Hegarty said.

“John has a fantastic left foot and is physically ready for senior football plus he has a great willingness to learn – these attributes that will be extremely valued here.

“We are very pleased to welcome him to the club, and I look forward to seeing how he progresses throughout the year.”
