Hume City FC signs skilful winger Adisu Bayew

Hume City FC has confirmed former Western United winger Adisu Bayew as its latest signing.

The 24-year-old played three seasons in Australia’s top division making 25 appearances for Western United, which included two goals.

Previous to this, Bayew has played within the NPL system at Green Gully during two terms and at the Preston Lions, though injuries have limited his appearances in recent seasons.

Bayew is determined to get fit and hit the ground running at Hume City FC where he will bring an exciting brand of play to the wing.

Bringing pace, skill and agility to the position of wing, Bayew is driven by Hume City FC’s ambition to win as he aims to be a key contributor to future success.

“What drew me to join Hume City FC is the ambition to win,” said Bayew.

“After conversations with Senior Coach Nick Hegarty and the type of person he is, which is one hungry for success, it really resonated with me. I want to be part of a championship winning team, I want to win titles. Also the style that I play suits the direction of Hume City FC.

“Hume City FC fans can expect from me, goals, flair, excitement.

“My playing style is staying high and wide, running at players one-on-one. I love those situations, so I start my attack on the wing to create either a goal for myself or a scoring opportunity for a teammate.

“Personally, I’ve had a few injuries the last few seasons, but I’m hopeful to enjoy a consistent run of football. I want to get my body right, be healthy and play as much football as I can.

“More importantly, I want to help the team win a championship.”

Hume City FC Senior Coach Nick Hegarty believes Bayew can return to the A-Leagues and the position the team is in now will get the best out of him.

“Adisu’s quality speaks for itself,” said Hegarty.

“Adisu is still young, but has fantastic experience already behind him.

“Whilst his ability is obvious, he is at a point in his career where he needs to prove his class week in week out.

“I’m 100 percent convinced our environment will give Adisu the platform to ignite and put his name back in and around A-Leagues discussion.

“The hard work starts now.”

Hume City FC will begin its 2026 NPL Victoria season at Nasiol Stadium against the Altona Magic on Friday, 13 February.
