Hume City FC has added Aidan Coyne to its line-up.
Coyne comes from an impressive lineage of footballers with his father Chris and grandfather John both former Australian Socceroo players.
Born in Luton, Coyne replicated his father by playing for A-League side Perth Glory by starting in the NPL squad in 2020 before being promoted to the first side the next season.
After seven A-League appearances at Perth Glory, Coyne signed a professional contract for English Championship League side Watford.
Coyne was loaned to Maidenhead United and St Albans City, but will return to Australia to join Hume City FC for its 2026 NPL Victoria campaign.
“One of my main reasons for signing for Hume City FC was my conversations with Hegs (Hume City FC Head Coach Nick Hegarty) about what he’s trying to deliver at the club through the standards and professionalism,” said Coyne.
“I really enjoyed what Hegs had to say in those conversations and the direction he’s taking with the club
“What excites me the most for this season’s just playing football again. My last contract ended in May last year, so it’s been a while since I last played and it’ll be exciting to get on the park again.
“My aims are to start as much as possible and help the team win silverware.”
Hume City Head Coach Nick Hegarty is excited by the energy and spark Coyne will bring to the team.
“We are really pleased to get Aidan completed,” said Hegarty.
“He was with us for 10 days before Christmas and really increased the intensity of all around him and really gave us a spark.
“Aidan had a few opportunities to look into as all talented young footballers have and we were there to support him throughout it all.
“We are excited to have him with us full time now, his attitude to work, win and learn is infectious and we look forward to helping him fine tune his game throughout the year.”
Hume City FC will begin its 2026 NPL Victoria season at Nasiol Stadium against the Altona Magic on Friday, 13 February.
