Birkan Kirdar Agrees 2 Years

Hume City FC has secured the re-signing of club vice-captain Birkan Kirdar in a deal that will see the talented attacking midfielder remain in Broadmeadows until at least the end of 2027.

Having joined the club in September 2024 from Dandenong City, Kirdar made an instant impact on the team with 10 scoring involvements during his maiden season in 2025.

Despite being just 23 years old, Kirdar has already amassed an impressive career in the sport that has seen him represent both club and country at the highest level.

Following his formative years at Hume City FC, Kirdar rose through the ranks in Victoria as a junior with successful spells at Essendon Royals and Whittlesea Ranges, earning a contract with Melbourne Victory’s youth squad in 2017.

A breakthrough year saw him called up to the Australia Under-17s at just 15 years old, before earning a historic debut for Victory in the first half of 2018. Kirdar’s substitute appearance for the club in their AFC Champions League victory over Shanghai SIPG saw him become their youngest-ever debutant at just 16 years and 70 days.

After four years with Melbourne Victory and 22 caps for the Australia Under-17 side, Kirdar eventually made his way back to the Victorian National Premier League before reuniting with Hume City in September 2024, where he was made vice-captain at the start of this season.

In his maiden season for Hume City FC, Kirdar scored four goals in the National Premier Leagues and provided six assists across his 23 league appearances.

In re-signing with Hume City FC, Kirdar was excited to continue with the club that he holds a special connection with.

“Hume City FC is a Turkish club and my grandfather was one of the founding members, so it’s more than just a football team for me – it’s a second family,” Kirdar said.

“I see what Ersan (Gülüm), Haydin (Bekir) and the whole backroom staff are trying to build and I want to continue being part of this project, so I am really happy to have the opportunity to re-sign with the club and stay where I love.

“The club has shown faith in me by wanting me to stay here and treating me with the utmost respect, so I am keen to give back to them in every way possible. Hopefully, I can go to another level in 2026.”

Hume City coach Nick Hegarty was pleased to have Kirdar re-sign with the club.

“Birkan is a brilliant player and has the potential to be a fantastic leader within the group. Keeping him on the books for the 2026 season and beyond was a major priority for us, so I am pleased we were able to lock him down,” Hegarty said.

“It’s fantastic having a player like Birkan with strong ties to this club that go back long before any of us were involved. Building on that connection is important and will help us develop a stronger environment within our first team squad and continue developing the culture in the local community.

“I am excited to work with Birkan next year. Working together I have no doubt we can maximise his strengths and give him the platform to prove he is the best attacking midfielder in NPL Australia wide.”
