After finishing the VPL 2010 Season in 2nd position Hume City came to Epping Stadium on a high after an enthrauling encounter with Northcote City in the last round of the season at John Cain Reserve.

Playing against a much improved Green Gully FC, Hume City began the match on top, but found it difficult to create scoring opportunities. Mitch Bosevski playing wide left had the first look at goals, but was unable to test the Gully keeper sending the ball wide of the goal at the 7th minute.

With the battle of the midfields still not sorted, surprise inclusion Brendan Beni took at shot at goal after a cross from a corner, only for the ball to find its way into keepers lap.

Cameron Drake sent out the early warning signals to the Hume City defence as he headed the ball looking to send his team up early in the match, but was denied by Acevski at the 13th minute.

Matthew Sanders followed up with a 20 metre left foot strike on goals, but was denied by a determined Acevski working tirelessly to keep the ball out of his territory.

At the 27th minute mark of the first half Green Gully took another shot on goal from a free kick taken by Andy Vargas, which hit the wall and the match once again remained at a stale mate.

At the 32nd minute mark, Graham Hockless continued from where his team mates left off with a brilliant shot on goal, only for the captain to once again rise to the challenge.

With the Hume City midfield lacking penetration, Green Gully continued to create chances only for no real result. Hume City's out of form striker Zoran Petrevski decided to lift the tempo intellegently intercepting the ball in the midfield and setting up Mitch Bosevski who once again sprayed his attempt to put the ball past the Gully Keeper.web-2-gully

Hockless almost helped his team to a brilliant goal after setting Steve Burton up infront of goal, he to was unable to capatilise on the Hockless brilliance at the 43rd minute mark.

Sanders sent the ball wide of Acevski and the goals at the 45th minute mark, keeping the scores at 0-0 at the half time break.

With Andy Vlahos swinging the changes at the half time break, Dusko Delic and Steven Pace replaced Ross Thompson and Brendan Beni.

The second half began as the first ended with Green Gully in complete control of the match. Fischer opened the scoring at the 47th minute mark sending his team 1-0 ahead.

Fischer sensing Gully's control and Hume City's bad form tested Acevski at the 60th minute mark only for the City captain once again rising to the challenge.

After searching long and hard for the much elusive goal it was Richard Cardozo who stood up to show why he is the most creative player in te VPL scoring off one step from 25 metres out leveling the scores at 1-1. With a touch of urgency creeping into the match, Green Gully replied to Cardozo's brilliance with Fischer once again leaving the City defence retarded sending his team up 2-1 at the 74th minute.

Green Gully hammered the nail in the coffin at the 86th minute when Burton sent his penalty kick for a handball on Izzy Erdogan past Acevski to fly through to the major semi final against Richmond FC, whilst Hume City goes back to the drawing board at training to plan its recipe for victory against an inform Heidleberg United in a must win contest.

Hume City FC has secured a top two finish after a match regarded by most at the game as the game of the season.

Hume City started with the breeze at their back, and continued to bombard the home team goals early in the match. Andy Vlahos Vlahos created the first chance setting up Richard Cardozo at the 4th minute who sent the ball well wide for a Northcote City goal kick.

Ross Thompson came close at the 8th minute taking a free kick from 30 metres out which went just wide of goals. With Hume City attacking the Northcote City goals at every given chance, Phil Riccobene decided to try his luck, taking an optimistic 30 metre shot on goal which also went well wide of Northcote City goals.

Northcote City had its first realistic chance with the leagues top goal scorer Trent Nixon slipping away from the defence and taking a shot on goal only for the ball to be intercepted by a desperate Fab Delizzia at the 11th minute of the match.

Hume City supporters went up as one when coach Andy Vlahos crossed a brilliant ball to Cardozo who scored with a well timed left foot strike at the 14th minute only for the celebrations to be called off by the linesman for an offside.

Cardozo sensing a goal continued to find himself in attacking positions when he headed the ball wide of goals after a Bosevski cross at the 16th minute mark.

Trent Nixon continued to cause headaches for the Hume City defenders beating the offside trap and sending the ball past Louie Acevski and the goal post for a goal kick.

Zoran Petrevski put some fire into the match as he left two Northcote City defenders behind him winning possession of the ball and setting Andy Vlahos at the edge of the box who in turn was fouled by the opposition defenders and awarded a penalty by the referee.

Hume City found the back of the net at the 20th minute of the match after a well placed penalty was taken by Ross Thompson sending the ball past the Northcote City keeper.

Fab Dellizzia almost made it 2-0 after he missed a certain header at the 24th minute from a corner kick taken by Richard Cardozo.

Cardozo made it 2-0 at the 36th minute slotting in a left foot trademark goal after a brilliant assist came from Zoran Petrevski.

Northcote looking for answers to the rampant Hume City, found the back of the net at the 44th after Nixon was awarded a controversial penalty against Izzy Erdogan.

With both teams troubling the score sheet in the first half the referee blew the whistle for the end of the first half.

Northcote City found the back of the net through Mark McGough at the 49th minute putting life in the game which would begin a 40 minute streak of what would be one of the games of the season.

Northcote City stunned everyone at the ground after leading goal scorer Trent Nixon sent the ball past Louie Acevski with an amazing header and sent his team 3-2 ahead.anadolu--nortcote-web4

With the match really hotting up Richard Cardozo took a free kick just outside the box after Zoran Petrevski was fouled. Adriano Chiappetta cleared the ball from the free kick which hit the hand of a team mate and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Ross Thompson went back and slotted his second goal from the spot levelling the match at 3-3 at the 57th minute of the match.

Trent Nixon shouldering his teams’ fortunes took a left foot shot from outside the 18 yard box at the 71st minute beating Acevski but not the crossbar, unable to change the score.

Serdar Pir took the ball out of defence through the corridor making a 40 metre run, choosing to set up Andy Vlahos who was called offside at the 75th minute.

Izzy Erdogan followed Pir by putting his coach through at the 76th minute only to have Andy Vlahos send the ball wide of goals for a Northcote City goal kick.

Petrevski brilliantly headed the ball into the cross bar at the 77th minute, which bounced back into play and was met by Alfonso Opazo who headed it back to Petrevski on his knees who headed the ball to goals once again hitting the cross bar and leaving the Hume City fans bewildered.

With the team pushing for a goal. Petrevski took a long distance shot at the 80th minute mark only to have the defence clear the ball away. Andy Vlahos trying to find the elusive goal put the ball in the lap of the Northcote City keeper at the 81st minute mark.

Zoran Petrevski followed up once again to set up coach Andy Vlahos at the 82nd minute mark who put the ball in the back of the net to send Hume City 4-3 ahead and a guaranteed double chance in the 2010 finals campaign against Green Gully at a venue to be confirmed.
