There is no getting around it, this is the most crucial match of Hume City’s season, and it can only be of benefit to City that it may mean very little to their opponents Pascoe Vale, who cannot improve or worsen their ladder position, regardless of the result.
Hume City are only one point adrift of the dreaded relegation playoff place, and they must pick up all three points of the road at Pascoe Vale in order to keep their safety in their own hands.
Last Time They Met
These two sides last met in round 13 at ABD Stadium, where Hume came from behind to turnover a half-time deficit and claim a 2-1 win that continued their season’s renaissance after an extremely poor opening ten games of their campaign.
The win kept Hume away from the automatic relegation places, leaving them sitting in 12th place after 13 rounds; meanwhile, Pascoe Vale were hanging on to their top six status, sitting just one point ahead of Oakleigh Cannons and Dandenong Thunder.
All seven NPL Victoria round 26 matches will be played simultaneously at 3pm this afternoon, and Hume need to win if they are to ensure they needn’t make the trip to AAMI Park on the 23rd of September to playoff for their seat at the top flight table.
The two other sides who can still finish in the relegation playoff position are South Melbourne and Green Gully. South Melbourne sit two points ahead of Gully, who currently occupy the playoff position and one point ahead of Hume.
South host Port Melbourne this afternoon, while Gully host Kingston at the same time.
Both Port and Kingston can still qualify for the finals, so both sides will have added incentive to win.
Hume’s opponents, Pascoe Vale, are marooned in fourth place and cannot move up or down, regardless of today’s results. However, Pascoe Vale’s incentive will be carrying positive momentum into their finals campaign.
Hume go into the game on the back of a positive string of performances, but their Achilles heel all season has been thier finishing; this is a weakness that they will need to rectify if they are to pick up three points away to one of the best sides in the competition.
