Hume City welcome Oakleigh Cannons to ABD Stadium on tonight, as the home side look to capitalise on the momentum they generated through arguably their biggest win of the season against Heidelberg United last Sunday.
Last Time They Met
Hume travelled to Jack Edwards Reserve in Round 11 to take on an Oakleigh side that had had an indifferent start to the campaign, winning four and losing six of their opening ten matches and sitting in mid-table.
Hume were deep in the relegation zone at the start of play, and they fell on the day to a goal from their former player Wayne Wallace, with the game finishing 1-0 in favour of the home side.
The loss pushed City down to the bottom of the table for the first time this season, while the three points propelled Oakleigh into the top six.
Hume have had an upturn in form in the 12 rounds since the two sides last met, and now find themselves one point clear of the relegation zone.
Oakleigh fell out of the top six with a string of poor results throughout late June and July, but they have since turned their fortunes around with two wins in their last two matches lifting them back into the finals places.
Hume have beaten Oakleigh only once in their last five meetings, with their last victory coming in June of 2016, more than two years ago.
However, this is a new and improved Hume side that appears to be on the up, and the confidence that they will take from beating top of the table Heidelberg cannot be underestimated.
Oakleigh will be desperate to win and maintain their place in the top six, but Hume will be aware of the importance of claiming all three points in the context of such a tight battle to avoid the relegation playoff position.
Kick-off is tonight at 7pm at ABD Stadium.
