Hume City’s under 13 side had to come from behind to defeat Melbourne Knight 4-2 at ABD Stadium on Sunday.
Colin Cooper’s side found the opening goal in the 14th minute when a Nathan Talevski free kick was spilled seeing Joshua O’kane tuck home a go ahead goal.
Knights fought back, however, and at half time held a one goal advantage.
Hume came out firing in the second half and levelled the scores when Ahmed Iedom scored from a through ball by Jake Najdovski.
Melbourne Knights looked to hit back and could have had themselves a goal if not for some sharp reflexes from goal keeper Lucas Trenkovski.
A Hume city victory was sealed when Deha Kurul scored a late second half brace to see the game finish at 4-2.
The result sees Hume City stand clear at the top of the table with a strong goal difference.
Speaking after the game coach Colin Cooper said the fightback was a learning opportunity for his side and also praised his opponents.
“I thought that character played a huge part in the result,” Cooper said.
“It’s a credit to our boys that they kept competing despite the fact the Knights were having better patches of the game at times.
“It was an impressive win and the Knights were very good too.
“A lesson for the boys is not to panic because its a bigger occasion. They must aim to execute their skills as they normally would even though they’re under more intense pressure. It was a great learning opportunity.”
Hume City continues its 2017 season at Campbell Reserve on Sunday against Moreland City, kick off 10:00am.
