Hume City suffered its third loss of the season after a hotly competed 1-0 defeat away to Melbourne Knights.
Shaun Timmins and Ramazan Tavsancioglu both missed the game due to injury and suspension respectively, Ivan Pavlak and Steven Cudrig their replacements in a reshuffled back four.
City started strong but found themselves a goal down when Stipo Andrijasevic got himself on the end of a Knights counter attack, his shot deflecting past Chris Oldfield and nestling into the back of the net.
Hume City pressed for an equaliser as the half drew on, Cudrig and Shane Rexhepi each going close from a corner kick.
After the break City continued in its quest to seek parity, Nick Hegarty going close with a long range strike in the 50th minute.
Knights weren’t without chances of their own early in the second half, Marijan Cvitkovic shooting wide when he was found free at the back post from a Jason Hicks free kick.
A series of Hume City corner’s would follow, however it couldn’t create a clear sight on goal.
Knights went close to doubling their lead in 72nd minute, however Chris Oldfield was on hand to deny the shot to keep Hume City in the contest.
Hume would go agonisingly close to pegging back the lead when Steven Cudrig met a Nick Hegarty corner in the 82nd minute, his nod back finding Shane Rexhepi who headed over the bar.
Despite Hume City applying plenty of pressure it would be Melbourne Knights who would take home all three points in a tight and tense encounter at Somers Street.
